Constant Content Update

constantcontentlogoIt’s been a long time since I’ve been on the Constant Content website.  I’ve gotten paid for an article or two that sold, but haven’t taken the time in the last year or so to write or check in on the site.  Recently I did just that and I was pleasantly surprised.  They’ve updated the look, layout, and functionality of the site and it’s a great improvement!  When I was writing for them a few years ago I changed e-mail addresses and asked them several times to update their records (you can’t do that yourself) and it never happened.  When I stopped by recently I made the request and it was done in minutes.

Now that my address is fixed I’m benefiting from a new feature they have where they send you an e-mail every time a buyer requests specific content.  Although I haven’t had the time to write any of the material requested, I was really excited to see several of the requests were right up my alley.  I’m glad to see they are still there and doing even better than before.

If there’s a writer in you waiting to get out, I highly reccomend writing some stuff for Constant Content.  As I’ve said before, with them you set your own price, chose your own rights and can write on just about any subject.  They are a legitimate outfit and a great opportunity if you want to make money writing or just want your work out there.

Spread it Around

In a recent post I mentioned that I’ve learned when it comes to making money online or entreprenuership in general you can’t put all your eggs in one basket.  I think that’s a topic that bears repeating and a little bit of expanding.  It’s certainly not a new concept and definitely not one I came up with it on my own.  I think I probably first formally encountered it was on some tapes by Robert Allen, I remember him using the phrase “multiple streams of income.”  Anyway the theory was that if you only made a few bucks a month on something but multiplied that times a bunch of somethings, it would add up.  Simple math and simple numbers.  Numerous other people have purveyed the concept and many more actually work it.

Bottom line is that I still haven’t found that one thing online where I could make a big comfortable living.  But I have managed to find a bunch of little things that bring in a little $$ each.  Seriously, if there was one thing anyone could to make a six figure income in their pajamas, wouldn’t everyone be doing it?  You’ll notice that here on OperationBob I don’t give you any “start this thing and quit your day job” type of hyped up “opportunities.”  Instead I focus on real things that pay real money, however small, and pass on as many of them as I can find.  You don’t have to do everything, but hopefully you can find a few that get you thinking or get your snowball starting down a covered hill.

I think the trick is to find the ones you enjoy doing.  If you don’t like it you’ll resent it and/or stop doing it.  The second thing is to look at the things you enjoy and focus on the opportunities within that list that require the least time to do with the best reward.  Third, keep at it.  Fourth and finally, keep expanding – always pay attention to what else is out there and what’s working and what isn’t.

Guest Posters Wanted

OK, so I’m looking for a little interaction and of course some new content.  I haven’t had a guest poster on in quite awhile, but when I have it’s been fun and beneficial to all and I’d like to do it again.  If you’re interested in writing a post for OperationBob either comment or click the contact link.  Posts should be somewhat related to the theme of the site including topics such as making money online, parenting, working from home, some combination of these or something relevant.

Of course it needs to be in reasonable English (not necessarily perfect and proper, just understandable) and nothing spammy please.  I’ll be happy to include a pic if provided and a link to your site or blog.  What’s in it for you?  Well, you’ll get a link from here, which has a decent page rank and traffic, and some exposure and hopefully some traffic.

More Pet Peeves

Awhile back I started a series of pet peeves and kicked it off with my gripes about Television.  It was nice to hear from you all via comments that I’m not alone in the little things that irk me.  This weekend I’ve been out and about a bit and noted several more pet peeves to share.

People who mow their grass and shoot it out into the road! Especially here in the neighborhood.  Do they not realize that if they would just mow in the opposite direction, at least for a pass or two, the grass would stay in the yard where it belongs!  It’s never the folks who regularly mow their grass either, it’s the one or two houses that let their grass get a foot high and then make hay and blow it all into the street.

50 Registers and 2 cashiers! If you didn’t already guess, I’m talking about Wal-Mart.  Can somebody tell me why they have all those registers when only a couple of them are open at any given time?  Today we did some grocery shopping there and on the way in I noticed the lines were a mile long.  Further back I saw two managers chatting in one of the aisles and as another employee walked past they asked him to go find some people who could go up front and work the registers.  Seems to me it would have been more efficient to send that guy up to a register (along with one of the two managers) and then have the other go round up more help.

Drive Thru Misfits! If your drivers window doesn’t go down, maybe the drive-thru isn’t the best option for you.  I’ve seen it more than once, the person that pulls up and opens the door and leans half-way out to give their order and then shuts the door, pulls around and has to open the door and lean out again to pay and get their food.  The worst drive-through offender is the one who is ordering lunch for 20 and every single item is a special order.  I don’t have anything against someone getting what they want, but go inside already!

Well, I feel better now.  :-)

Back to the Dentist

A few weeks ago the little one decided to ride his little bike thing off the hearth and landed face first into the corner of the coffee table.  It pushed one of his front teeth back a bit and obviously hurt quite a bit.  We took him to the emergency room (it was late in the evening) and then followed up with a dentist.  Both said there wasn’t anything they could do, just keep an eye on it and give him tylenol for pain if he needed it.  The dentist said to keep him on a soft diet for a week, which was really hard for a kid that loves chicken, steak, hard fruit, potato chips, and so on.  But, we made it through and as the dentist suspected he managed to work the tooth almost back into it’s original position by himself.

So now we’re going back for a follow up.  I’d rather go to a proctologist than a dentist.  Every dentist I’ve met has been very nice, none have ever tried to kill me or anything, but they scare me silly.  The sound of the drills, the sight of the chair, it all gets me quite queasy!!

My fear aside, hopefully the little guy is taking a break from the stunts for awhile.  Between his little accidents and the cold/flu a few months back we’ve spent way to much time at the hospital and doctor’s.  I’m sure it’s unpleasant for him, at least when it happens.  Although, it seems that by the time we get to the doctor he is a happy little clam and the doctor thinks we are nuts.

Crunch Time

School starts back up for me in a few weeks.  When I’m in school it seems like all I can do to keep up with assignments, going to class, studying, clinicals, and spending some time with the family.  It’s really hard spend any real quality time working on my many online projects.  I find a little time hear and there to maintain, but not much time to explore and expand.

So the next few weeks I’m trying to get caught up and ahead so that everything is in maintenence mode for the most part until my next break.  There’s so much to do.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned about making money online, or entreprenuership in general, it is that you can’t put all your eggs in one basket.  Therefore I have a million projects going on at any one given time.  OK, maybe not a  million, but it sure feels like it!  I’ve made a lot of progress over the summer, but I still have a long way to go!!

CafePress, Zazzle, and PrintFection

A few months back I mentioned that my love for CafePress was diminishing slightly due several changes they made that resulted in my paychecks shrinking. I’m still not complaining because passive income is great, regardless of size. A thoughtful reader suggested I check out Zazzle. I had set up an account there some time ago and played around a bit but based on this reader’s comment I decided to really give it a go. I also found another POD (print on demand) site called Printfection and put most of my designs up there too.

Setting things up on Printfection was a royal pain! You can create multiple products at one time, but the tool to fine tune your design is less than cooperative and once you create the products you can only edit them one at a time. So if you create 20 products at once and have a type, or forget to put in a commission (it defaults to 0) you have to go back and fix each one, one at a time. Their selection is good and it doesn’t cost anything to have a store. According to Alexa they don’t see near the traffic that CafePress and Zazzle do.

Zazzle is probably the easiest of the three to set up products on. I’ve encountered a technical glitch here and there, which is frustrating when it happens but I’ve encountered those on all the POD sites. The store is free and according to Alexa they are running pretty close in traffic to CafePress.

I still use CafePress and still make money on it. Now that I have all my designs up on all three I hope to spend some time coming up with new ones, at least for CafePress and Zazzle. I’m not sure I’ll spend the time it takes to create much more on PrintFection unless I see it’s really worth it. CafePress charges $6.95/mo for a premium store, and you can’t do any real business without one. But the monthly check more than covers it.
