I Hate Weddings. But…

Yesterday my little brother got married in formal splendor to a great gal.  As a rule, I hate weddings.  In fact, I’m not a big fan of any type of ceremonial event.  My first and second marriages were both officiated in a courthouse by a judge – and I don’t have any regrets, well except that I wish the first marriage had never happened at all.

Anyway, Will (my brother) and his wife opted for the exact extreme opposite of a courthouse wedding with a full on uber-formal gala event.  The night of the rehersal we in the wedding party received our “packets” which included a minute by minute itenerary of where we were supposed to be and what we were to do.  The first thing I noticed was that my involvement was going to begin at 12:30 and I wouldn’t be off the hook until 10:00 pm.  I was a bit disgruntled, although I have to admit my new sister-in-law did an awesome job of coordinating and scheduling the impending events.  I had no idea she was super-anal… I thought only me and my OCD were capable of planning every detail in such a way.

So Saturday arrives and we’ve been bumped up a half hour to starting our duties at noon – oh joy!  But, after the first hour or so things started to move along and it turned out to be a great day.  I’m not all that sentimental, but it was pretty moving to see my baby brother a few feet away taking the ultimate plunge into adulthood.  The entire thing went off without a hitch – way to go sis!  All that planning in minute detail paid off.  I’ve never seen an event that went exactly as planned with no SNAFU to speak of, until this one.

I hope, for many reasons, that this is his first and last wedding.  But it was a great day and an I’m glad I was a part of it.
