A Christmas Tree by Any Other Name
There’s a neat story on FoxNews about a Wisconsin lawmaker who wants to rename the evergreen tree in the capitol, which was called a Christmas Tree until 1985 when Political Correctness took over and it got renamed a ‘holiday tree.’ He wants it to once again be called a Christmas Tree.
Of course there’s controversy. Some object and say they’re offended at the state endorsing Christianity. Why would they do that, just because nearly 2/3 of Americans consider themselves Christians, our foundational documents are centered around Christianity, and we’ve found God important enough to print on our money for years and years. I mean we all must be nuts since we reference God in the pledge, pray to him before every session of legislation, and every president makes reference to God. But for goodness sake, whatever we do, we can’t call a Christmas Tree a Christmas Tree.
Feel free to disagree, but I am openly all-for-God and am quite pleased to see someone in a position of authority start chucking political correctness out the window in favor of what’s right, and what’s American. Maybe next year we can pass a law that it’s OK to say Merry Christmas again instead of the vague happy holidays. And you know what, if you wish me a happy Kwanzaa, or happy Hanukkah I won’t be offended.
