It’s Christmas Eve

…and the spirit of love and togetherness is upon us.  Our 4 month old is too young to have a clue what’s going on, which means we’ll probably enjoy his first Christmas more than hew will.  Unfortunately, my older two children live with their mother 1300 miles away so I won’t get to see them this Christmas.  I think about them every day and miss them very much.  It’s especially hard on the most wonderful holiday of the year - without them there’s a certain emptiness.

We’re off to grandmother’s for the usual festivities; family, dinner, games, and of course gifts.  Since the baby has recently discovered he has hands and how to make them work, we’re curious to see what he’ll make of tearing open packages.

Other than that, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day tend to find me spending more time on the ambulance.  Staffing is limited because so many folks are out of town and that leaves a few of us to pick up the slack.  By 11am I had already responded on two medical emergencies.  I don’t mind though.  Injuries and illness don’t take holidays and if it were my friend or family in need I would certainly hope that someone would come regardless of the day.

Well, the wife says it’s time to get ready and go, so I better be off or I’ll end up with coal in my stocking.
