How to Disclose Paid Posts?
When I first heard about paid posting or sponsored posts I thought it was a cool way to make some money, as long as I told my readers in the post that I was being paid for it… even though I write the same thing whether it’s paid or not.
I started noticing a lot of advertisers don’t want sponsored post or anything like it mentioned in the post itself. More and more I’m seeing that on advertiser’s requests and I’m also noticing a lot of blogs that don’t disclose within the post that it’s sponsored.
So now I’m wondering if I’m being to prudish by only doing sponsored posts when I can disclose within the post? Maybe the site-wide disclosure is enough. On one hand, being paid may cause me to write about something I otherwise may not, but it won’t make me write something I don’t believe. On the other hand, won’t readers feel betrayed when they find out down the road that some of your posts have been bought? Or has that become an acceptable norm, like banner ads which no longer need a caveat saying they’re not affiliated with the site?
