Vaccination Dilemna

Every time we go to the pediatrician it’s another round of immunizations and vaccinations – usually 4 or 5 at a time. By the time our little guy is walking he’ll have been stuck more times than a pin cushion. From the look on his face, it really hurts. But that pain is short and we accept it because we know the vaccines are for the greater good… but are they?

My wife started to become concerned because she heard reports of vaccines being linked to autism and other developmental disorders. Our pediatrician says there’s no worry. But another couple we know is not having certain vaccines given to their baby who’s around the same age because her pediatrician has some direct experience and questions the risks.

Beyond these two pediatricians, the rest of my research seems to yield the same conflict. For every report that says there’s no link, another one suggests there is. For every study that says the vaccines are safe, another one is there to dispute it.

So, what’s a parent to do? We get these vaccines to protect our kids because we love them and want them to be safe and healthy. Now we hear the vaccines themselves may be causing more problems then they were supposed to prevent. We don’t know what research to trust or who to believe. Ugh!
