Dry Skin and the Nocturnal Baby
Aside from the everyday adventures of a 5 month old, we’ve had a few noteworthy challenges lately. First, what we thought was just dry skin started to get worse. He has some rough and dry patches on his skin which won’t go away and seem to be showing up in more places, along with some tiny bumps that look like a rash. So we took him to the pediatrician today fearing the worst. But, once again we can classify ourselves as paranoid parents as doc tells us the affliction is simply dry skin - what we thought in the first place. Hopefully an increase in household humidity and some oil will restore his skin to it’s natural youthful appearance.
On another note, since we started him on baby food in addition to formula, he actually sleeps about 8 hours in one stretch. Unfortunately that stretch doesn’t begin until 5am! We’re still searching for the trick on this one. We’ve moved bath time and feeding time and worked hard to keep him awake during the day, but it never fails - he just won’t sleep at night. I’ve been taking overnight baby-duty since I can pretty much work any time and so that at least one of us stays on a normal daytime schedule. Hopefully we’ll find the solution soon and both me and baby can work around the sun instead of the moon!
