Project Wonderful
You may have noticed I added a project wonderful ad space over there on the right. I’m a little late to the party I suppose. I first saw project wonderful when EntreCard placed an ad block on their site. I think a lot of other bloggers discovered it there too, because after that project wonderful boxes started popping up on more and more blogs. (or maybe I just started noticing what was already there.)
Most of us who earn an income online have a website or blog of some sort and one semi-passive way to make money is to rent some of the real estate on our pages. By real estate I mean space… just like land is real estate you can put a building on, space on a page is real estate you can put advertising or content on.
So, let me tell you what I see as the pros vs cons of Project Wonderful. In some cases we’ll make comparisons to AdSense, since that’s a very popular program that many folks have experience with or at least some familiarity.
Pros:
-You (the publisher) get paid for displaying the ad, whether anyone clicks it or not. In that way it’s like an apartment building where you know you’re going to get paid vs. having a hotel where getting paid depends on people checking in.
-You set the price. There’s no mystery. You set the minimum bid and it isn’t reliant on content matching or keywords.
-You control the ads. You can set all ads to auto-approve or you can auto-approve ads you’ve approved before or you can approve each ad by hand. If you are particular about what’s being displayed on your page, as I am, this is a nice feature.
-You control the commotion. This is really part of controlling ads, but you can specify whether you’ll take animated ads or not. If you don’t want your page to look like times square, you have the power.
-Cashout threshold is low. Once you have $10.00 in your account you can cashout to paypal. No waiting to amass amounts that take the average joe months to reach.
-Relationships. Since you have control over your ads, and advertisers pick where they want their ads, it’s more interactive and fits with the blogging community.
Cons:
There’s only one con that I have found so far which is actually part of a pro. Since the advertisers select publishers, there’s no guarantee that you’re box will have any ads on it. On the other hand, with the other model just because you’re displaying ads doesn’t mean you’ll be making any money. So, it’s not really that much of a con but a different (and maybe better) method.
