Crowdsourcing

cambrian.gifA friend on blogcatalog told me about a site called CambrianHouse, which claims to be the home of ‘crowdsourcing’. (I didn’t know what that meant either) I checked it out and while I won’t pretend to understand every detail, the concept looks quite interesting.

First, it’s free to join. Members pitch an idea for a business or endeavor and the community provides feedback. It’s not just a cheering session, most of the feedback is quite candid and pretty thorough in exploring the potential challenges with an idea.

If one decides to press forward with their project they can ‘hire’ others in the crowd to do parts and pieces of the work, like designing a logo, writing content, developing applications, etc. Those who work on the project are paid as negotiated by the idea owner.

They use several points systems that I’m still a little fuzzy on. There are ‘cambros’ which have a one to one USD cash value and royalty points. Again, this is an area I don’t completely have my head around yet, so I won’t claim to know something I don’t.

The site itself is very professional. Obviously it was a custom design… no cookie-cutter theme here. The community seems very active, supportive and realistic. I wish I had more time to explore it more thoroughly. Hopefully I can soon. In the meantime I wanted to pass along this interesting find in case it could be a good resource for any of my readers. If anyone out there has any experience with them please comment and share.
