Tools of the Trade: Image Editing

Sooner or later (and probably sooner) every webpreneur is going to need to edit an image or create a graphic. Photoshop is the most commonly referred to, but it’s also very expensive and can be a bear to learn. Fortunately, Photoshop isn’t the only game in town anymore. Here are a few alternatives:

  • Paint.net – (free) has an intuitive interface and nice features.
  • GIMP – (free) GNU Image Manipulation Program.

BONUS: Another handy tool when working with images, graphics, or CSS is Eclipse Pallet. It’s a light little app that gives you an eyedropper to select a color from anything and then gives you the color’s code – so you can see exactly what color something is an replicate it. This is another tool I would be naked without. (trust me, no one wants that!)

  2. The problem with Paint.Net is that you need the .Net software.

Tom – If I remember right all I needed to get Paint.Net running was a free download from MicroSoft. Is that what you mean?
